The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn was very interesting. She begins by describing life as a game not a battle as so many call it. She says that it cannot be played successfully without the knowledge of spiritual law and the Old and New Testament.
She refers to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Old Testament Isaiah and Elisha. She also gives examples of the children of Israel from the Old Testament.
The chapters are not numbered and are divided into subject matter, which include The Law of Prosperity, The Power of the Word, The Law of Non-resistance, The Law of Karma and Forgiveness, The Subconscious, Love, Intuition, Self-Expression, and Affirmations.
The Law of Prosperity includes not only receiving what you speak but believing it as well. Florence Shinn gives examples from the Bible and her own experiences. The thought is continued in the section of the Power of the Word. She believes that whatever one speaks is what is likely to happen.
The section on The Law of Non-resistance emphasizes that nothing can resist an absolutely non-resistant person. Water for example is perfectly non-resistant. Even if you agree that an adverse situation is good and you are undisturbed by it you will see it fall away of its own weight. To make the Law of Non-resistance work use affirmations like. "I have a wonderful work, in a wonderful way. I give wonderful service, for wonderful pay!"
The Law of Karma is Sanskrit for "Comeback". Man receives only that which he gives.
The easiest way to impress The Subconscious mind with good is to "cast the burden". In The Game of Life and How to Play it, Florence Shinn uses the same example that Christ used when he said, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light"
The section on Love is about loving one another. Shinn uses the perfect example of love, Jesus Christ himself. As in many of the sections she uses examples in her personal life experience, which are very interesting.
When writing about Intuition she mentions that answers will come through a hunch; a chance remark from someone or a passage in a book etc. In other words man should follow his intuitive leads. Indecision is a stumbling-block she says. In order to overcome it, make the statement over and over "I am always under direct inspiration; I make right decisions quickly"
This book by Florence Shinn is definitely for someone who believes in the Bible. Many of her examples are from Scripture. The section on Self-Expression states that man's highest demand is for the Divine Design of his life. Perfect self-expression will never be like work but more like play she says. Don't let fear get in the way and make the statement "I am one with Infinite Intelligence."
One will find many good affirmations in the last section on Affirmations. This book, The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn, is only 81 pages and is a quick read. I recommend it, however I did find some of the things she stated went against my own Spiritual beliefs. Take it for what good you can get out of it and let go whatever doesn't fit.

"I have recently awoken from naively following new practices like the law of attraction and thankfully returned home to Christ. I think the main goal of the new age movement is to take power from the Creator (God) and claim power to the creation (humans.)”
